43/365: World Thinking Day

Today we participated in World Thinking Day. Girl Scouts around the world participate and it is a day to think about the meaning of Guiding and Scouting and about Scouts and Guides in all the countries of the world.

The World Thinking Day theme for 2011 is: girls worldwide say “empowering girls will change our world” and the aim is to raise awareness of the situation for many girls and young women and empower them to take a stand against inequality.

Girls and women of all ages in many countries do not have the same opportunities as men. They do not have the same access to education as men - around 54 per cent of out-of-school children are girls. Women are underrepresented in the world’s parliaments and in the labor workforce, and earn far less than men.

The Daisy Girls had a great time doing activities and interacting with with other troops and were even able to meet with Japanese Girl Scouts.
